The Enaex Mining Technical Solutions team will perform a study to determine the reaction time.
Many times, this should be done in different parts of the operation depending on geologic changes. The time is determined by using an indicator at the blasthole (usually a bit of detonating cord) and a high speed camera. When the hole is initiated, the indicator marks the moment of detonation time and, depending on the frame rate, the time can be determined by the number of frames until the rock around the blasthole begins to move. This number can be used to then time blasts to best provide the desired burden relief. The burden relief will play a large role in muckpile shaping, fragmentation, and throw.
